Cristiano Ronaldo is currently shopping for a new club
following his abrupt Manchester United exit. The Red Devils axed the five-time
Ballon d'Or winner on Tuesday, November 22, with seven months left on his Old
Trafford contract. United decided to terminate Ronaldo's contract just days
after his bombshell interview with British journalist Piers Morgan
In a statement by the
Premier League club, United said:
"Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by
mutual agreement, with immediate effect.
The club thanks him
for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145
goals in 346 appearances and wishes him and his family well for the
future," the club added. While Ronaldo is currently on international duty
with Portugal for the 2022 World Cup, the veteran striker will also be having
his eyes fixated on hunting for a new club.
Which clubs could Ronaldo join?
Despite his advancing
age, Ronaldo is expected not to fall short of options as he looks for a club to
join ahead of the January transfer window. According to Mirror UK, a return to
Sporting Lisbon could be on the cards for the 37-year-old close to two decades
after he dumped them. A shock move to Premier League rivals Chelsea has also
been mooted, while Bayern Munich could also be an option. Paris Sainty-Germain
are the other European giants Ronaldo could sign for in a sensational transfer
that could see him play alongside long-time football nemesis Lionel Messi.
Napoli represents the best destination for the veteran
forward in Italy, while another reunion with Real Madrid could be explored.
Elsewhere, the Portuguese star has also been linked with a possible switch to
Newcastle United.
