South Africa's senior men's national football and rugby teams both played on Saturday afternoon
Tellingly a sparse crowd showed up for Bafana Bafana's victory over Sierre Leone at Soccer City, while a full house witnessed the Springboks defeat Argentina at Kings Park Stadium
This led to an interesting debate about the reason why there was such a difference in the popularity of the two teams
An awkward photo is making the rounds on social media and is causing a stir.
The image shows the difference in attendance at Soccer City in Johannesburg and Kings Park Stadium in Durban for a Bafana Bafana and Springbok match. A sparse crowd watched Bafana defeating Sierre Leone 4-0 in the 95 000-seater, while the 52-000 seater was filled to capacity as the Boks overran Argentina 38-21.
The reasons as to why this is so made for interesting reading.
Jean-Jacques Rosseau said: "World Class team vs Minnows of Africa … no comparison."
Mantshonga Mncadi said: "A clear example of what happens when people feel they are not taken seriously and appreciated. The Boks know that they need to perform for the fans, and they never disappoint."
Trevor Ndlela said: "Can't compare the two Springboks are World Champions while Bafana Bafana are number 100 in the world."
