In 1973, a charmingly handsome boy was born to the powerful lion king of Dagbang,Naa Mahamadu. This boy would grow up to be a walking authority, a personified power and a great leader of Abudus,one of the two chieftaincy gates of the great Dagbang Kingdom of the northern region of Ghana,West Africa.
His name, Mahamadu Abdulai. The boy Abdulai would shouder the troubles of the world right at his teen age. King MAHAMADU was deskinned as the King of Dagbang by the military junta, General Acheampong and replaced by Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II. The supreme court of the republic of Ghana declared the two as Kings of Dagbang and that any of them would be buried as a legitimate king once he dies. Five years later, Yaa Naa Mahamadu took the journey of no return.
In accordance with the traditions of Dagbang, the King was buried and the teen ABDULAI was ushered in as the regent and given the title,BOLIN LANA. He was only fourteen years. And that was in 1987. Per the customs of Dagbang,the regent of the King is apparently the leader of the gate he belongs and so he just has to remain indoors for the years that it will take to perform the King's funeral. For Bolin Lana Abdulai's case, only God knew his fate. The teen Bolin Lana would carry the yoke of a regent and leader of the Abudus for God's know when. The urge and protests for him to be given the chance to perform his late father's funeral at the YAA NAA'S palace would lead to the infamous and the most ugly Abudu-Andani war in Yendi(the traditional seat of the Dagbang State), leading to the death of the sitting most loved,revered and famous king, YAA NAA YAKUBU ANDANI II. Dagbang was plunked into social darkness by the unfortunate mishap. The Dagbang state became infamous for chieftaincy conflicts and peace ran away with wagging tail.That was in 2002.
Bolin Lana ABDULAI would still comb the bushes, speak to the air,commune with his ancestors and knock the doors of central government to allow him perform the final funeral rights of his late father as a legitimate king.In 2018,the Asantehene led mediation team of prominent chiefs supervised by the Nana Addo led government,drew the final timeline for the performances of the funerals of the two late Kings. Finally, Bolin Lana heaved that loud sigh of relief when on that faithful thursday he successfully circumambulated the YAA NAA'S PALACE as the most significant part of the performance of the king's funeral. This was in 2019. The funeral of Yaa Naa Yabubu was straightforward performed subsequently and a new Yaa Naa was enskinned.
Bolin Lana was enskinned as the paramount chief of the mion traditional area by the new Yaa Naa, Naa Gariba II and would henceforth be called, HRM Mion Lana Mahamadu Abdulai. He chose the appellation,"Binchara so gali." To wit, the rag is better than the thread. He fast forward took the journey to the holy land, Mecca to perform Hajji.
Per the mion Lana title conferred on him and by traditional arrangement, Mion lana Abdulai would be made the new Yaa Naa of the great Dagbang kingdom should the king die before him. But only the world knows what it wants and does what it wants.Mion Lana would die as the strongest leader of the Abudu gate.Mion lana would live as the most feared chief, most talked-About paramount chief and most charmingly handsomely revered paramount chief of the Dagbang state. Mion Lana,born a king from the womb, would live a kingly life from his teen age, shake the unshakeable in his quest to establishing kingship, tipped as the next king but leave the stage as mion Lana. And painfully, at the fruity age of 48, the wicked-minded death placed its icy hands on the soul of Mion Lana on Wednesday,17th AUG 2022.
Dagbang lost an irreplaceably indispensable son of immense value. The KINGDOM of DAGBANG is tested once again. His Royal Majesty,Mion Lana Mahamadu ABDULAI is gone but his deeds will linger on eternally. Humanities of DAGBAŋ©2022
